Birchwood Park Marks 25 Years With Flurry Of New Investments

11 May 2023

Our Park is marking a major milestone this month with a series of new investments in both office and warehouse space.

25 years ago, following the sale of Birchwood Technology Park (then owned by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority), Birchwood Park was created and the journey of growth with new occupiers began.

Since celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018, our Park has completed a £12m investment programme in refurbishing more than 50,000 sq. ft of office space, its EngineRooms facilities, as well as building five more warehouse units totalling 170,000 square feet.

Year on year, the Park continues to enjoy an industry-leading retention rate of over 90%, owing to the extensive amenities and wellbeing support provided to all occupiers.

This year, our Park will be continuing its plans for growth, with the completion of four new high-quality, flexible warehouse spaces totalling over 161,000 sq. ft and the commencement of refurbishment works on the 200,000 sq. ft Chadwick House, one of the Park’s iconic, multi let office buildings. These works will initially include replacement windows and improving the energy efficiency of the building.

Looking ahead, the core objectives remain clear: to drive expansion of its world-class nuclear sector, as well as continuing to meet its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets.

Martin O’Rourke, commercial director here at the Park, commented: “Since the very beginning, our Park ethos has been ‘Expect More’ – ensuring our occupiers can expect more from their office or warehouse space with excellent amenities, transport connections and a real community feel.

“For the past 25 years, we have repeatedly invested in new office warehouse and amenity spaces to accomplish exactly that. We believe it is the employees that are the most valuable asset for any business, and by looking after our occupier’s wellbeing by investing in different facilities such as the on-site gym and EngineRooms, it will ensure occupier’s staff are more motivated to come to their office and ultimately more productive. Our vibrant business environment is suitable for businesses of any size or sector, rivalling any other locations in the North West”.

Existing amenities onsite include conference, meeting and event space at The EngineRooms, as well as the recently refurbished gym available to occupiers for discounted prices, a purpose-built nursery and a number of food and drink outlets across the Park.

Martin continued: “Looking ahead, expanding our portfolio of nuclear engineering occupiers and its supply chain will be a priority. We’re home to some of the biggest names in the nuclear sector that includes Jacobs, Cavendish Nuclear, NNL, Nuvia, Rolls-Royce and just recently, the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) settled at its new home in Birchwood Park”.

We will be hosting a range of celebrations across the year, starting with a special ‘1998 menu’ at the EngineRooms on Friday 19th May. The menu will feature a number of food and drink options priced similarly to 25 years ago, for one day only. This will include a set menu and coffee for local employees and visitors alike.

In recent months, we have continued to expand our list of occupiers and have welcomed a number of new businesses, including engineering consultants Richter Associates, the expansion of specialist diagnostics Werfen, online trading consultants FX Cartel and most recently, the UK’s number one manufacturer and installer of windows and doors, Safestyle UK.

Over the last five years we have also welcomed new companies such as Bellway, British Engineering Services and Haier Europe to the Park
