Miller Homes North West backs the next generation during National Apprenticeship Week
News 09 February 2026
To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2026, Miller Homes North West is highlighting its continued commitment to developing future talent through its apprenticeship programme, supporting young people to build long-term careers in the construction and housebuilding sector.
This year, the spotlight falls on 21 year old Emily Billington, a Land Trainee based in the North West, who is combining four days a week working at Miller Homes with one day studying at university as part of her apprenticeship.
Originally from St Helens, Emily’s interest in geography at college and university sparked a passion for land and development, particularly in understanding how post-industrial and brownfield sites can be transformed into communities.
Emily’s role works closely with the planning and technical team, with her role gaining a hands on experience across land appraisal, planning, valuation and development viability.
Emily said that choosing Miller Homes was a clear decision due to the company’s reputation as a high-quality, customer-focused housebuilder. She described the apprenticeship route as a supportive and practical way to enter the industry, allowing her to apply academic learning directly to real-life development projects while building professional experience at the same time.
The focus on apprenticeships comes as interest continues to rise nationally. Recent figures from UCAS show record demand, with 59% of students in Years 9–12 considering an apprenticeship, and around 425,000 users actively searching for apprenticeship opportunities. The figures highlight a clear shift towards “learn and earn” routes, particularly in sectors such as construction where practical experience is key.
Emily added that she would recommend the apprenticeship route to others, describing it as a well-structured and rewarding pathway that balances education with meaningful, hands-on experience.
Miller Homes North West is continuing to support this shift by investing in its apprenticeship scheme, helping to develop the next generation of construction professionals while supporting local employment and skills development across the region.
